Lucy Gray

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

This is our daughter Lucy. She was born a couple of weeks ago and has made Jenna and I enormously happy. Its hard to put into words, but I’m sure those of you who are parents understand the life changing effects of having a child.

The last two weeks have been great. Lucy is healthy and doing well. Even now, I can see her personality emerging. I can see how she looks like her Mom and her Dad. I can see past generations of our families living through her.

We have so much to be thankful for. She is special.

Fresh Vegetables

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

This year Jenna and I planted 10 tomato plants. It didn’t take long before the vines were dominating the peppers, cucumbers, and assorted herbs in the gardens.

Over the last few months I attempted to train the muscular vines over cages and trellises, but it was hopeless. The resulting tomato jungle has provided hours of enjoyable harvests and meals.

Part of our success is due to the mixture of topsoil and compost from the folks at One Yard at a Time. For the last two years we filled the garden beds with a few yards of this rich fuel. In addition, we spread a bunch of our own hi-octane compost. Now we have healthy plants that in many cases have grown well past my head. The best part is they haven’t even peaked yet.

Last night, Jenna, Katie, Vivian and I enjoyed bruschetta and a great pasta dish that Jenna prepared. You can’t beat fresh vegetables in the summer.

Wanderlust

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I am leaving this harbour
giving urban a farewell
its habitants seem too keen on God
I cannot stomach their rights and wrongs

I have lost my origin
and I don’t want to find it again
rather sailing into nature’s laws
and be held by ocean’s paws

wanderlust!
relentlessly craving wanderlust
peel off the layers
until you get to the core

did I imagine it would be like this
was it something like this I wished for
or will I want more?

lust for comfort
suffocates the soul
this relentless
restlessness
liberates me
sets me free

I feel at home whenever
the unknown surrounds me
I receive its embrace
aboard my floating house

wanderlust!
relentlessly craving wanderlust
peel off the layers
until you get to the core

did I imagine it would be like this
was it something like this I wished for
or will I want more?

wanderlust!
from island to island
wanderlust!
united in movement
wonderful!
I enjoy it with you

wanderlust!
wanderlust!
can you spot a pattern?

relentlessly restless
restless relentlessly
restless relentlessly

can you spot a pattern?
