Once again, it’s been far too long since I’ve gone fishing. Every year I always complain about wanting to do it more than once a year.
I like to think that I’m a fisherman but I’m not. Well, at least I don’t fish often. I dream about fish. I talk to friends and colleagues about fish. I most certainly eat fish. The other day I made a fairly fantastic Halibut in Puttanesca Sauce. I just don’t go fishing that often. However, I long to fish in pretty much the same way I long to play golf. Explanations and excuses aside, I just wish I could fish more.
So when May comes around every year I get pretty excited. For the last five years, my friend Dan has invited me along to fish the lakes of northern Wisconsin. These trips are special, but they aren’t foreign. My Mother made sure that an appreciation for simpler things were imprinted on my psyche long ago. Yet, the Opener is great in that I’m fishing, eating, playing cards, and playing golf with guys. It’s fun. It recharges some batteries and drains others. It’s something to look forward to. I can’t wait ’till that first day of May.
We’ll see you guys then.
